This was so beautiful! Thank you for this piece. Recently I've wondered what 'faith' I can develop to keep going. The faith is in the trying and the moving, as we see with these beautiful little buds.
The idea that people become more conservative as they age and accept what's "realistic" is so thoroughly depressing to me. If anything, I'm getting more angry and more radical as I learn and understand more. Anyway, thank you for an inspiring piece. Especially that last paragraph, which made me cry.
If you haven't witnessed it before, and that regal hackberry does get taken down in an attempt at property safety...it will grow a forest of saplings from its roots. A veritable thicket will rise from your lawn (and your neighbors') in the tree roots' attempt at survival. It's glorious and annoying at once.

Thank you for the reminder, Fanny.
🥰😘
This is brilliant and beautiful. And if you put "Fuck the Odds" on a t-shirt, I will be your first customer. xo

Hahaha that's probably why my arborist husband hates them.
Maybe! Or the fact that they always grow on fence lines...you can't fault their persistence though.
Thank you for this. It helped bring up some tears and is very well-timed for I'm sure not just me but for all of us 🙏
